Dear Ms. Malagon,
I am writing in regards to your story on the theft and vandalism of the Thaddeus Kosciuszko statue in Chicago by Israel L. Soberanes. Based on the content of the story, it is revealed that Soberanes is slated to be deported, which I have to assume means that he is an illegal alien, though this isn’t clearly stated. Isn’t it inaccurate to call him an “E.C. man ” (East Chicago) when he is probably a Mexican, Central or South American man?
As you well know illegal immigration is a major issue in politics today and particularly in the ongoing presidential campaign. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for journalists to accurately report the facts. As it stands the headline of the story is misleading, while the important fact that the criminal in question is an illegal alien who should not be in our country in the first place is something we have to read between the lines to discover. I hope your reportage on similar issues will be more accurate in the future.
Best Regards,
Nick Siekierski
